Kathmandu — The Patan High Court has issued a show cause order against Dr. Sanjeev Tiwari, General Secretary of the Nepal Medical Association, in a contempt of court case.
The order, issued by a joint bench of Justices Shyam Kumar Bhattarai and Hemanta Rawal, follows a petition filed by the Consumer Rights Protection Forum. The court has directed Dr. Tiwari to appear in person within seven days and provide a clear explanation — along with evidence — as to why he should not be held in contempt.
The case stems from public remarks made by Dr. Tiwari and an official statement issued on the Association’s letterhead in response to a recent ruling by the Consumer Court. That court had ordered Grandi City Hospital, Himal Hospital, and Om Hospital to pay compensation for medical negligence.
Following the verdict, the Nepal Medical Association publicly opposed the decision and announced protest programs. The Consumer Rights Forum argued that the Association’s statements and protests were in contempt of court, prompting it to file a legal petition.
The court has now asked for a formal justification from Dr. Tiwari regarding his remarks and actions.
