Bhairahawa – A leadership development training program for ophthalmologists was successfully conducted in Bhairahawa under the initiative of the Nepal Ophthalmic Society. The one-day event saw active participation from ophthalmologists and resident doctors working in various eye hospitals in and around the Bhairahawa region.
The training was led by renowned national and international leadership trainer Anil Prasad Shrestha, who has over 30 years of experience in sectors including finance, insurance, education, aviation, agriculture, and corporate leadership. Shrestha is well-known as an inspirational speaker and strategic leadership coach.

Participants were trained on a wide range of topics such as leadership principles, practical implementation strategies, team coordination, effective communication, project management, public relations, and critical thinking.
Dr. Tejasu Singh Malla, General Secretary of the Nepal Ophthalmic Society, joined as the co-trainer. He emphasized the importance of such training for doctors taking on leadership roles, stating, “Since leadership development is not included in the medical education curriculum, healthcare professionals often face challenges when stepping into leadership roles.”

Dr. Purushottam Joshi, Associate Professor and President of the Nepal Ophthalmic Society, expressed satisfaction with the training, noting, “Such programs are crucial for the personal and professional growth of our members. We have previously conducted a similar training in Gandaki Province and plan to expand this initiative to other regions as well.”
The Society has also announced a two-day leadership development program to be held during its annual conference from November 13–15 (Mangsir 27–29). During the event, participating doctors will also have the opportunity to join international leadership development programs.

Established in 1985, the Nepal Ophthalmic Society currently serves as the umbrella organization for over 500 ophthalmologists across Nepal. The Society remains committed to professional development, protecting the rights and welfare of eye specialists, and contributing to the advancement of public health policies.
