Chitwan — The BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Chitwan has launched a dedicated mobile hotline service aimed at providing support to cancer patients during their treatment journey.
According to Dr. Gurusharan Sah, Head of the Medical Oncology Department, the service is designed to assist patients undergoing step-by-step treatment, particularly those who may face complications after returning home between sessions of chemotherapy or radiation therapy. It is also meant to support newly diagnosed patients and those experiencing a recurrence of cancer while they are away from the hospital.
Patients or their relatives can now call 9855081501 at any time to receive guidance. “This number is not intended for general hospital inquiries or complaints,” clarified Dr. Sah. “It’s strictly for cancer-related medical complications, especially when the patient is away from the hospital after receiving treatment.”
The hotline will also help guide non-cancer hospitals and their doctors who may lack specialized knowledge on how to begin treatment for newly diagnosed cancer patients. “We will coordinate with non-cancer medical staff via mobile to provide immediate advice and referral instructions as needed,” Dr. Sah added.
Hospital Executive Director Dr. Shivaji Paudel emphasized that the hotline is especially aimed at helping patients in remote areas. Trained oncologists and nurses with expertise in acute oncology services will operate the hotline 24/7. They will offer recommendations based on patient symptoms or reports, including both immediate and long-term care guidance.
